THE STORY

"Whoever welcomes a child such as this for my sake welcomes me.  And whoever welcomes me, welcomes not me, but Him who sent me."
Mark 9:37

Why the Finca?

“I have come so that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

John 10:10

This promise has been foundational in my life, and I have a strong desire for all people, especially children and youth, to know that their lives have purpose and that they are loved by God!

I had been serving full time in Catholic Youth Ministry in Christchurch, New Zealand, for the past three years and I truly loved it, but last year a restlessness was stirring up with in me.  I had desired to be a missionary since I was 11 years old and I knew that God was calling me to step out in faith. I began discerning different missions knowing that I would like to go to a Spanish speaking country in the Americas, to work with children/youth, and to live in a Catholic community. I started becoming slightly disheartened until my Texan flatmate suggested the Farm to me. As I read about the Farm, my heart could not stop singing, I knew that this was the mission God had placed on my heart!

The pillars of the Farm, a call to community, spirituality, service and simple living, deeply resonated with me.

I believe that with authentic and unconditional love, people thrive! I know that this has been true for me and this is why I have decided to serve the mission of the Farm. I desire the same for these children!

I know that there will be challenging and beautiful times. I am confident that God has called me and He is faithful to His promises.
“God constantly surprises us, He bursts our categories, He wreaks havoc with our plans. And He tells us: “Trust me, do not be afraid, let yourself be surprised, leave yourself behind and follow me!”

- Pope Francis-

About the Farm

The Farm of the Child is home to Honduran children, serving 100+ other families in the surrounding mountain villages through their school, health clinic, and various outreach efforts. At the Farm, children who have survived poverty, abandonment, and difficult, often traumatic family situations, now receive a good education, health care, spiritual formation and love.  This care is provided by a team of Franciscan sisters, Honduran house parents, and international volunteers. I will work with the children, as well as the adults in their lives, to create and foster an environmenvironment that is conducive to their growth, learning, and healing.
